My name is Alexander Popichak and I’m a journalist, editor, live television director, designer and producer.

I’m currently employed as a producer for Erie News Now – the news team serving northwestern Pennsylvania and the greater Erie, PA area.

In 2018, I graduated with a degree in broadcast production and media management major from Point Park University in Pittsburgh.

During my time at Point Park, I served as General Manager for our on-campus radio station, WPPJ managing 60+ weekly shows and a station board. I also created, wrote and and produced Point Park Television’s news program, NewsNight.

I served as the editor-in-chief of Point Park’s student newspaper, The Globe. In that role, I oversaw the 45-person staff, day-to-day operations and the 50th anniversary edition and subsequent celebration.

In March of 2018 I created, directed and produced Point Park University’s first-ever live sketch comedy event, Point _____ Live! Produced for U-View Television, it has become one of the most-watched television events since the station began in 2007 with a reach of over 1,000 people within the first week.

I was a digital associate for the Pittsburgh City Paper in 2018, a production assistant for 90.5 WESA – Pittsburgh’s NPR News Station in 2017 and I was an editorial intern for the Trib Total Media digital project upgruv.

In addition to formal editorial roles, I also worked as a studio apprentice for Point Park University and as a high school sports stringer for the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

For my work covering the Point Park full-time faculty union formation, I was honored with a 2018 Mark of Excellence Award for breaking news reporting. That same year, I was honored with our staff for editorial writing and our weekly Globe’s Point.

My photographic and journalistic work has been published with the Point Park Globe, U-View, WPPJ, WESA, The City Paper, upgruv, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Trib Total Media’s Signal Item and IN Community Magazines. If you’re interested in my full credentials, visit the “contact/resume” page.

I’m an Eagle Scout (class of 2014) and a proud Carlynton Cougar (class of 2015).

Feel free to look around! Consider this website my portfolio that’s (mostly) up to date – my favorite work is here.
