About Me

Courtesy of Chloe Jakiela

My name is Alexander Popichak and I’m a journalist, editor, producer and ten thousand other things.

I am a broadcast production and media management major with a journalism minor at Point Park University in Pittsburgh and serve as General Manager for our on-campus radio station, WPPJ. Elsewhere on campus, I’m the executive producer of U-View Television’s Point Park NewsNight, a weekly student-produced newscast. I also serve as a layout editor for the on-campus paper, The Globe. In 2017, I was the editor-in-chief of the The Globe. In that role, I oversaw the 45-person staff, day-to-day operations and the 50th anniversary edition and subsequent celebration.

I work part-time during the school year at the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette as a high school sports stringer. In 2017, I worked as a newsroom production assistant at 90.5 WESA, Pittsburgh’s NPR News Station producing spots, web features and content for ongoing series. In 2016, I was an editorial intern at the aggregate trending news website run by Trib Total Media’s affiliate 535media upgruv. Think localized Buzzfeed and you’re halfway there.

My photographic and journalistic work has been published with the Point Park Globe, U-View, WESA, upgruv, The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Trib Total Media’s Signal Item and IN Community Magazines. If you’re interested in my full credentials, visit the “contact/resume” page.

Feel free to look around! Consider this website my portfolio that’s (mostly) up to date – my favorite work is here.
